Change a Girl's Life

Young women today face many challenges that threaten their futures. Without access to the right support, these young women may never realise their potential and achieve their aspirations in life.

With the support and courses we offer, we can help young women all over the UK build the confidence and skills they need to move into work, training and education.

The money raised this year will enable us to support more young women so they can overcome challenges they are facing and change their lives for the better.

Carrissa's Story

Carrissa is now a body transformation coach and founder of the online coaching programme, Keep Me Curvy, following the support she received from The Trust’s Enterprise programme.

Suffering from burnout and depression during the pandemic, she turned to food to help herself cope and gained a significant amount of weight. It was around this time that she also experienced a severe mental health breakdown and was hospitalised. As she began to rebuild her life from scratch, Carissa realised that if she wanted to live the life she dreamt of, she needed to start her own business.

The King’s Trust helped her to accomplish this through the Enterprise course, offering her a non-judgemental Youth Development Lead and mentor, as well as a financial grant.

As a Young Ambassador, Carissa is looking forward to sharing her journey and experiences to ensure that the impactful work of The Trust can continue to benefit other young people facing similar challenges. She also wants to improve her public speaking, storytelling skills, as well as meet new people.

Shannon's Story

Before coming on to one of The King's Trust courses, Shannon was struggling on benefits and caring for her two little boys. She is a single mum and her second son was born prematurely and has long term health difficulties.

However, after taking part in our Get into Healthcare programme - designed to help prepare young people for a career in their chosen field through work experience, CV and interview preparation, Shannon has successfully secured a position within the NHS working as a Healthcare Support Worker in the paediatrics department at Ninewells Hospital.

“I’m so happy to be able to be doing a job I love and I’m passionate about, helping other families like mine at the same hospital my little boy was in. I don’t think I would have had the opportunities I’ve had if it wasn’t for the support from The King’s Trust.”

Asia's Story

Currently working as a Maternity Support Worker for the NHS, Asia is on the path to fulfilling her childhood dream of becoming a Midwife.

Suffering from depression and anxiety, following numerous unsuccessful job applications, Asia feared she would never be able to turn her dream into a reality, until she came across The King’s Trust ‘Get into Health and Social Care’ programme. She then took the skills and confidence she learnt to successfully secure her first job at the South London and Maudsley Hospital.

Asia is now feeling more optimistic and as a King's Trust Ambassador, she wants to further her passion for making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people and wants to enhance her skills in empathy, resilience, and leadership to leave a lasting impact.
