I’m taking part in Million Makers, raising funds for The King's Trust.

The King's Trust believes that every young person should have the chance to succeed, no matter what their background or the challenges they are facing. The Prince's Trust NatWest Youth Index 2024 revealed that over a third (39%) of young people no longer feel in control of their future, with over a quarter (26%) feeling as though they are going to fail in life.

The courses offered by The Trust help young people aged 11-30 to develop essential life skills, get ready for work, access job opportunities and create a brighter future for themselves.

Another month, another Skill Session 💯

Tuesday 25th Aug

This month, we discussed the importance of building connections and influencing stakeholders throughout the Million Makers challenge.

Big thank you to our superstar panel:

Here's what we learnt:

🙌 Reframe Networking: Take the fear out of networking by framing it differently, and with curiosity. This is a chance to make new connections, learn new perspectives, and unlock future opportunities!

🤝 First Impressions Count: Make sure you have a go-to introduction that you can adapt for different events. This ensures a confident initial conversation, and can take the pressure away before a big event.

📝 Be Useful: Consider what you can offer a new contact, not just what you may gain, to set you apart from others.

💻 Research, research, research: Take some time to research your new contact to understand their interests and gain a wider understanding into their world.

⭐ Pay Attention to your Personal Brand: When connecting with others, make sure your social platforms are updated and in line with your personal brand. You want contacts to be connecting with the authentic you!

Last week, we kicked off our #MillionMakers CPD-accredited Skill Sessions with a bang, giving our 2026 cohort an insight into effective leadership.

Here's some key takeaways from the session:

🤝 Take your Team on the Journey: A good leader includes their team in decisions, and cultivates a culture where team members can challenge and contribute to the group vision.

🗣️ Listening and Communication Come First: Understand your team before you lead them - what motivates them to drive results?

🎧 Block the Outside Noise: As a leader, it's important to create a safe space for your team to thrive, which often involves blocking unnecessary distractions and external pressures.

📖 Preparation is the Key to Confidence: Once you feel ready and prepared for an event, meeting, or discussion, confidence will naturally follow.
