What is Million Makers?

add remove
Million Makers is a national fundraising challenge that transforms employees into entrepreneurs. Over six months, teams from organisations across the UK turn £1,500 of seed funding into life changing funds. As well as raising money, the challenge provides employees with a unique development opportunity – learning new skills, expanding their network, and gaining a CPD accreditation.

How much does it cost to take part in Million Makers?

add remove

Million Makers is free to join. The King’s Trust will provide your team with the seed funding of up to £1,500, and all the resources needed throughout the challenge. To safeguard our own funds, by agreeing to our terms and conditions when registering, you are agreeing to underwrite this capital investment. All funds raised by the team during the competition are donated back to The King’s Trust to support young people across the UK.

What's the time commitment?

add remove
Time commitment is entirely dependent on the capacity of the team, and the initiatives they decide to undertake. On average, a few hours per week over six months, but you can work with your King’s Trust point of contact to make this work for you.

Can we take part in Million Makers if we already fundraise for another charity?

add remove
Yes! Million Makers goes beyond fundraising. It’s a structured, CPD accredited leadership and development programme that makes an impact.

Can Million Makers be used alongside existing development programmes?

add remove
Million Makers can complement your existing learning and development offer. It’s hands-on, cross-functional, and CPD-accredited – giving participants a chance to apply leadership, innovation, and commercial skills in a real-world setting.

What if we can't get senior buy in?

Many companies start small – one pilot team is often enough to demonstrate value. Once leaders see the outcomes (confidence, collaboration, innovation), support grows quickly.

Can we enter more than one team?

add remove

Yes. It works best for multiple companies that have a large employee base and multiple sites. We advise against having multiple teams from the same location, or if it’s your first year taking part.

What if our team is spread out across different locations?

add remove

That’s not a problem. With the world becoming more agile and working from home being the new norm, we are expecting our teams to represent many regions. Million Makers can be a great way to bring colleagues together through encouraging cross-team collaboration and multi-site teamwork.

To keep connected and to make this an opportunity accessible to all staff, we recommend using conferencing platforms, like Microsoft Teams or Zoom, and providing the opportunity for the team to meet in person at key points in the challenge.

add remove
  • Million Makers is a formally recognised learning and development programme by the CPD accreditation service. Every participant that successfully completes Million Makers will receive a CPD accreditation, that can be added to their CV and used towards formal development journeys. Participants will receive a certificate upon completion of the challenge.

    T
his also means that companies taking part, can shout about providing employees with a CPD accredited opportunity that is also socially responsible and supports your charitable efforts.

Is Million Makers a competition?

add remove

First and foremost, Million Makers is a fundraising challenge to raise much needed funds to support young people. However, we love a bit of friendly competition! Check out our leader board to see how your team is doing. We will celebrate the teams who raise the most money and injecting some sector-based competition as well.

My Million Makers journey has come to an endwhat can I do now?

It doesn’t have to be the end! In 2023, we launched our exclusive Million Makers Alumni Network, to give previous participants the chance to continue their involvement with Million Makers and The King’s Trust.

By joining the network, members will gain access to further development opportunities, networking opportunities, and receive updates from The King’s Trust on the impact of their support. From joining us at some of our King’s Trust events to putting all those skills you have learnt throughout the duration of the competition to good use by mentoring future Million Makers teams – there are so many ways to continue your involvement!

At the end of your time in the Million Makers competition, you will receive comms from the Million Makers team about how to become a member. For more information and to register for the alumni network, see the alumni hub.
