I’m taking part in Million Makers, raising funds for The King's Trust.

Our store team at Selfridge Birmingham is walking and cycling 397km ( The distance between all 4 of our stores ) on Thursday 10th September. I will be attempting to complete 50km of that distance walking and cycling!

We've been working with the Kings Trust supporting young people to 'get hired' for the last year. In Birmingham we've already supported 18 young people to gain work and we're working with another 15 over the next few months.

The King's Trust believes that every young person should have the chance to succeed, no matter what their background or the challenges they are facing. The King's Trust TK Maxx Youth Index 2025 revealed that half (50%) of young people not in education, employment, or training (NEET) say the longer they are unemployed, the harder it is to find work. Over four in ten (44%) say that being out of work means they have lost confidence in their skills.

The courses offered by The Trust help young people aged 11-30 to develop essential life skills, get ready for work, access job opportunities and create a brighter future for themselves.

YELLIW ROAD CHALLENGE UPDATE

Friday 11th Sep

I’m delighted to say that we achieved our challenge and covered the 397km from Manchester to London, via Birmingham with our store team.

Personally I covered 13k walking and a further 40k on the bike - let’s just say , the walk was glorious and saw parts of Birmingham I’ve never seen . The canals are fascinating.

Let’s just say , I’m not a cyclist ! I’d did my bit , slowly and am now suffering 😂

Manchester inspiration

Today I visited our Exchange Square store to welcome home the YELLOW ROAD team that kicked off our challenge and walked from The Trafford Centre . 20 smiling happy faces, wearing yellow to unite them and carrying big yellow brollies - the weather was not kind to them!
