Me VS 10,000 steps

At a time when 900,000 young people in the UK are out of work – enough to form the UK’s third biggest city! The King’s Trust are committed to ending youth unemployment, and I’m doing my bit to support.

I am taking on the Future Steps challenge – completing 10,000 steps a day throughout February and raising vital funds to support young people across the UK.

A donation of just £12 could fund a call to The King's Trust helpline, enabling a young person facing adversity to gain the critical advice they need.

Every penny raised will help break down barriers, open doors and support young people to build the confidence and skills they need to find work. Please consider donating to my page.

Thank you.

My Updates

Don’t like this app!

Saturday 21st Feb
I wear an Apple Watch and it tracks all my movements, whilst the steps count is not 100% accurate (but no watch is), I know the distance is spot on, recording every km I have done. After 3 full weeks of walking, Apple Health is reporting I’ve taken 343k steps … yet the import into this app is over 500k? I don’t want to feel like. fraud so I’ve recorded every step count, every km moved and every length of the pool in my own spreadsheet to keep me honest. I’ve already surpassed the 280k step mark, and to achieve my goals of 300km walked & 30km in the pool, I’ve got 43km to walk & 2,725m to swim in the last week of the challenge. I just wish this app would read the figures directly from the Apple Health app as a difference of 200k is huge.

This app …

Sunday 15th Feb
… doesn’t seem to work properly! I’ve been importing my steps from my Apple Watch but it shows me walking way more than my watch stats. I’ve stopped looking at this app now and I’m purely tracking on my Apple Watch, recording the steps in a spreadsheet. According to the app I’ve taken over 330k steps … my watch figures are 236k.

Workdays

Tuesday 3rd Feb
Up at 05:30 to walk on the treadmill whilst catching up on overnight news via the iPad. Leave home at 06:10 and drive to the pool for a swim doing 1250m on Monday and 1000m Tuesday … the pool was way to busy! On Monday I went for a lunchtime 3.2km walk and plan to do a longer one today. These walks combined with the morning treadmill sessions gets 80% of the 10k in … and I just need to finish off on the treadmill in an evening. Looking forward to the days I work from home as I’ll be able to leave asap after work and get some outside steps in during the remnants of daylight!

And so it begins …

Sunday 1st Feb
… the challenge of 10k steps a day for a month. It’s a cold, wet, grey and miserable Derbyshire day but it’s a good one for a nice walk!

The walking pad

Thursday 15th Jan
Well, it’s been a really naff weather day but I went to the pool and swam 64 lengths (1 mile) before work, great way to start the day. And due to the weather, I’ve pulled out the walking pad and got some steps in on that. It’s horrible though compared to an outside walk!
