Me VS 10,000 steps

At a time when 900,000 young people in the UK are out of work – enough to form the UK’s third biggest city! The King’s Trust are committed to ending youth unemployment, and I’m doing my bit to support.

I am taking on the Future Steps challenge – completing 10,000 steps a day throughout February and raising vital funds to support young people across the UK.

A donation of just £12 could fund a call to The King's Trust helpline, enabling a young person facing adversity to gain the critical advice they need.

Every penny raised will help break down barriers, open doors and support young people to build the confidence and skills they need to find work. Please consider donating to my page.

Thank you.

My Updates

So, how's it going?

Sunday 8th Feb
One week down and the challenge so far has proven just that; a challenge. The week started of shaky, but I was pleasantly surprised by how well my working week went with a lunchtime walk and an outreach event as well as my usual commuting walk adding to the steps! Then the weekend hit and my son fell unwell. Seeking constant cuddles and comfort, it's been challenging to do any steps, let alone the meager attempt I managed. However, I am determined to make it up! This next week won't know what hit it!

So it begins!

Monday 2nd Feb
Here we go! Day 2 of the challenge. Off to a slightly rocky start on the 1st Feb due to travelling in a car for most of the day but I was pretty pleased with the 8000 or so steps that I did! We stopped at a lake to do a bit of a walk with my son (see picture below, duck spotting!) I've got a couple of planned walks coming over the month which I hope will help make up any other day that falls short to average 10,000 steps a day! #challengeaccepted

Less than a week to go!

Tuesday 27th Jan
Buzzing with less than a week to go BUT disaster has stuck in the form of a raging cold which is making me feel a bit demotivated and exhausted at present. I'm on a strict lemsip routine in a bid to feel right as rain for the start of the challenge!
Wish me luck!!

Anticipating the challenge

Tuesday 13th Jan
As February starts to creep closer, I have been thinking about the enormity of this challenge. I took my son to Ninja Warrior yesterday for their toddler session and although exhausted from chasing him around, still only managed to complete around £5000 steps throughout the day. Given that it was a non-working day, I am starting to think how I can get creative with completing steps on a working day!
We have recently invested in standing desks at work, so I will definitely be utilising those and looking to colleagues to come on lunchtime walks with me too! Two and a half weeks to go - let's smash it!

So the challenge begins

Thursday 18th Dec
Like all great athletes, day one of challenges start long before the competition really begins. With Christmas and new year just round the corner, I am conscious that the walking journey will be over a period typically filled with relaxation and eating a rather large pile of chocolate. However, in order to hit 10,000 steps every day in Feb, I need to start hitting more than 1000 currently... So here's to the Christmas day walk, the boxing day jaunt and the new years day stroll!
