I'm cycling miles to change young lives from Buckingham Palace to Windsor Castle

On Sunday 5 October, I will be taking part in Palace to Palace and cycling 45 or 90 miles from Buckingham Palace to Windsor Castle and raising fund for the King’s Trust.

The King's Trust has tailored programmes and provides long-term support give young people the practical skills and emotional resilience to pick themselves back up and create their own positive futures.

Following a cost of living crisis and pandemic which impacted their education, early careers and wellbeing, there are now almost 1 million young people not currently in work, education or training.

Please help me to support The King's Trust by sponsoring my Palace to Palace cycle ride and sharing my page. Just a £20 donation could provide one young person with an inspiring two hours of work experience in a stable job in a thriving sector

My Updates

1 week to go!

Sunday 28th Sep
So, I completed my final long training ride today - 20 miles done and I'm feeling strong! Finished the ride without any fatigue for the first time so I know that my training is coming together.

Highlights - conquering hills I used to find really hard to climb, hearing all the birds and seeing swans and ducks in the river, and riding through woods and seeing a deer!

Nutrition and hydration strategy worked today so I know I can use it next week. It was forecast to rain and didn't get a single drop but using my jacket was needed given the cold start.

This week will be shorter rides, with strength and flexibility work too. Final bits of prep and a bike clean and then I'll be ready!

1 week to go!!

10 days to go!

Thursday 25th Sep
Couple of things have hampered my prep since my last post but I am looking forward to riding P2P next weekend - only 10 days to go!!!

Good news is that I had an epic long ride of over 30 miles a couple of weeks ago! Was really unsure how I'd go but I felt good throughout and afterwards too - stronger, fitter and more ready! Loved breaking it up with a stop at home and a pit stop at a friend's house - meant I could sneak in a few delicious bhajia!

Regrettably, I had to abandon my long ride last weekend due to flu/cold - I was hoping to hit my target of 40 miles and then taper off before P2P. My ankle injury has been playing up too so need to keep an eye on it so it doesn't prevent me riding.

Never mind - my confidence & self belief is growing and I'm feeling more capable of riding on the big day now!

Despite being bunged up, I took the opportunity to go for a 45 min ride yesterday. Felt fine apart from my nose & cough so I'm confident I'll be able to well enough to go for my last long ride before the big day at the weekend!

Final preparations are underway:
- I was excited to receive my P2P t-shirt through the post this week! It's too big for me though - if I can change it for a smaller size I'll wear it on the day!
- It's much cooler out now & the sun isn't quite so strong either so am adjusting and wearing layers. Arm sleeves, leg sleeves, long tops & long socks are all part of the kit now!
- I have tried a nutrition & hydration strategy through training that seems to work. I'm stocked up and will use that on the day to keep me going.
- I'm hoping train &/tube travel on the day is smooth so that I can start as early as possible on the day itself. Will be aiming for a 8/8:30am start time.
- I have a bigger bike bag to keep all my extra bits. I'll be gathering and checking off the final items off the list in the coming days. Between the bag and my jersey pockets I'm hoping everything will fit!

10 days to go!!

Riding for a reason, or two!

Thursday 11th Sep
Only 3 weeks to go until the big day! Not sure how I'll fare as my training has been hampered by injury setbacks but I'm feeling strong and riding longer distances on weekends now.

Completing the 45 mile classic will feel like quite an achievement after the year of recovery but 90 miles would be even better so let's see how the final stretch of prep goes!

You probably know that I got back into cycling after I organised a charity ride in memory of my younger sister who passed away in 2021. Since then, I've kept up the cycling and continue to ride for causes that are close to me and that she would also have supported.

On Sunday 5th October, I will be riding my next charity ride in aide of The King's Trust.

"Every young person should have the chance to succeed, no matter their background or the challenges they are facing. The King's Trust help young people from disadvantaged communities and those facing the greatest adversity by supporting them to build the confidence and skills to live, learn and earn."

With the right support, it's possible to have a good start in life, and the Kings Trust enables this.

Please donate however much you can. Every amount counts towards courses, resources and other support provided to young people.

Thanks!
