I'm cycling miles to change young lives from Buckingham Palace to Windsor Castle

On Sunday 6th October, I will be taking part in the Palace to Palace Ultra bike ride, cycling 90+ miles from Buckingham Palace to Windsor Castle and raising fund for the King’s Trust.

The King's Trust has tailored programmes and provides long-term support give young people the practical skills and emotional resilience to pick themselves back up and create their own positive futures.

The recent Class of Covid report reveals almost half of young people in the UK (49%) feel anxious about their future on a daily basis, with 59% agreeing it feels frightening for their generation. Findings suggest the impact of the pandemic and now a cost-of-living crisis is taking its toll on young people, as 45% agree anxiety around recent political and economic events affects them daily. More than a third (35%) feel their life is spiralling out of control, and for those from lower income backgrounds, this increases to 41%.

Please help me to support The King's Trust by sponsoring my Palace to Palace cycle ride and sharing my page. Just a £20 donation could provide a young person with an experienced youth worker for an hour, building their confidence, resilience and motivation during this time.

Ready for tomorrow!

2 days to go!

Friday 4th Oct
2 days to go and we have sickness in the house, it's mainly Theo and Claire is a little unwell too. Fingers crossed they recover soon and that I stay well for Sunday!
I'm giving the bike a check over today with my neighbour Matt, he kindly offered!

3 months of training

Monday 30th Sep
Training on the bike started in July. Early this morning I went out and did 20 miles despite it being dark, windy and raining. I'm feeling ready for the big event!

A rubbish cold

Sunday 29th Sep
I've had a cold this week but I've been doing my best to get rid of it and I'm getting better!
I need to be fit, well and healthy for next Sunday!

The last big training ride before the event

Monday 23rd Sep
87 miles!

Creaky bike

Sunday 15th Sep
My bike has been creaking for quite a while. I got it serviced, it didn't resolve it. Bike shop thinks it's the bottom bracket (picture), so I got this replaced and it didn't make any difference to the creak. Back to the shop again and the guy tightened up loads - crank shaft, pedals etc but it still creaks. Sometimes it's silent 🤔

My longest ever ride!

Tuesday 3rd Sep
62 miles in lovely parts of Essex

My timeline

Monday 2nd Sep
Since my bike accident in December

Training with the kids yesterday

Friday 30th Aug
11 miles with Holly, her longest distance!!
Theo lapped us a few times!
It was a great day!

Where I go, the bike goes!

Thursday 29th Aug
It was expensive, I've invested in roof racks and bike racks for three bikes, so that the kids bikes can be carried too.
I'm really happy with this purchase.

45 miles on Saturday, my longest ride since since 2009!

Monday 12th Aug
A decent training ride with my buddy Nick

New kit

Thursday 1st Aug
I got myself a tube bag to stash food for the longer rides and a set of bib shorts for comfort! Albeit it felt a bit hot wearing them this morning.

Bike fix & service

Wednesday 31st Jul
I got the bike back yesterday, new cassette, chain, front brake disc, brake pads etc. I did 20 miles on it this morning, it was nice and smooth moving through the gears!

Training update 26th July

Friday 26th Jul
Hi guys, here is my training plan for the 92 mile charity ride 🚲
It started well until the last week 🙄
1) I was subject to anti social behaviour, a teenager crashing into my front wheel, damaging my bike
2) My lower back was tight and sore after the 31 mile ride last weekend
3) I had a bad stomach for a few days that made me unwell on Monday

But don't worry, I'm on the mend, I'm dropping my bike off for repairs today and I'll be back on the training next week when I get my bike back!
And of course I need to start fundraising, minimum target of £150 for young lives, any donations would be greatly appreciated via the following link 🙏
