Why I'm Fundraising...
On Sunday 5th October, I will be taking part in The Palace Walk. I will be walking 13.1 miles around Windsor to help young people create a better future for themselves.
Following a cost of living crisis and pandemic which impacted their education, early careers and wellbeing, there are now almost 1 million young people not currently in work, education or training, equivalent to the third largest city in the UK.
As someone that benefitted from a scheme aimed at helping young people into employment, it’s incredibly rewarding to be able to give back to a charity that seeks to help others in this area.
After graduating from University, finding full-time employment was a challenge – and after multiple knock-backs it can be very demoralising. Thankfully, I was pointed in the direction of Fulham FC’s “My Future Goal” initiative. Working with the football club I was part of a 10-week program that helped develop employability skills, and even culminated in securing an FA Level 1 coaching qualification.
Not only was there a small qualification as reward, the confidence boost and networking opportunity helped land me my first permanent role in the media industry. That small step led me on my path to management at Sky, and so I’m very excited to be contributing to opportunities like this for other young people, so that they might get their break like I once did.
