Breaking the cycle: finding motivation in the final days of the future steps challenge

Anxiety and depression have a way of creating a cycle that feels impossible to break. One day, you wake up with the best of intentions—determined to move forward, to take control, to accomplish something positive. But then, doubt creeps in. Fatigue takes over. The weight of everything you haven’t done feels heavier than the effort it takes to start. So, you don’t. And when the day ends, you feel guilty for not trying, which only feeds into the same pattern the next day. If you’ve been struggling through the Future Steps Challenge, you’re not alone. Maybe you started strong, feeling hopeful and motivated. But somewhere along the way, life happened. Stress built up. The little voice in your head started whispering, “What’s the point?” And now, with just a few days left, you’re wondering if you should even bother trying to finish strong. Here’s why you should. 1. Progress Is Still Progress Even if you haven’t hit your daily step goals, every single step you have taken counts. Instead of focusing on what you didn’t do, shift your mindset to what you can do now. Whether it’s a short walk, pacing around your home, or even standing up more often—small actions still matter. 2. Motivation Isn’t a Prerequisite—Action Is Waiting for motivation to strike is a trap. Motivation doesn’t come first; action does. When you take even the smallest step forward, your brain starts to register progress, which fuels momentum. Instead of waiting to feel ready, just commit to one thing—put on your shoes, step outside, and take five minutes. That’s it. Five minutes. And if you feel like stopping, that’s okay. But chances are, once you start, you’ll keep going. 3. Your Future Self Will Thank You Think about the version of yourself a week from now. Do you want to look back and regret giving up, or do you want to feel proud that you pushed through despite everything? Completing these last few days, even imperfectly, is a win. 4. You’re Stronger Than Your Mind Tells You Anxiety and depression lie to you. They tell you that you’re not capable, that it’s too late, that your efforts don’t matter. But here’s the truth: You’ve made it this far. You’re still here, still trying, still fighting. That in itself is proof of your strength. A Simple Plan for the Final Days • Set a mini-goal. Instead of overwhelming yourself with a big number, aim for just a little more than yesterday. • Make it enjoyable. Listen to music, a podcast, or walk somewhere peaceful. • Reward yourself. Celebrate each step—literally. Acknowledge your effort, no matter how small. • Be kind to yourself. Some days will be harder than others. That’s okay. Progress isn’t linear. The last few days of the Future Steps Challenge aren’t just about steps. They’re about proving to yourself that you can keep going, even when your mind tells you otherwise. This is about resilience, about breaking the cycle—even if just a little bit. And that little bit? It matters. So take a deep breath, lace up your shoes, and take that first step. You’ve got this.

Day 24: adhd, depression, and the future steps challenge

Today was tough. ADHD and depression don’t exactly make consistency easy, and keeping up with the Future Steps Challenge has been a battle. Some days, I feel unstoppable—knocking out steps, feeling accomplished. Other days, I can barely find the motivation to move at all. ADHD makes it hard to stick to routines. The initial excitement of the challenge wore off a while ago, and now it’s all about pushing through. But executive dysfunction means that even simple tasks—like putting on my shoes—can feel like climbing a mountain. Then there’s depression, which drains the energy and motivation to even care. But here’s the thing: I’m still here. Still showing up, even if it’s imperfect. Even if I don’t hit my step goal every single day. Every step I take, even the small ones, is a win against the part of my brain that wants to give up. I’m learning that success isn’t just about the numbers. It’s about the effort. It’s about getting up after the hard days and taking even one more step forward. Some days, that might mean hitting my goal. Other days, it might mean simply getting outside for five minutes. And that’s okay. The Future Steps Challenge isn’t just about movement—it’s about progress. And progress, however slow, is still progress. Here’s to taking it one step at a time.

Day 23 – wet, windy, cold, chatsworth & a deluxe hot chocolate

Today was one of those classic British weather days—relentless rain, howling wind, and a chill that no amount of layers could shake off. Not exactly ideal for exploring, but I wasn’t about to let that stop me. Despite the gloomy skies, we ventured out to Chatsworth House which no matter the whether is always impressive. There’s something about these grand old estates that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a period drama (even if you’re soaked to the bone and shivering). Pure history and elegance everywhere you look. But let’s be real, the highlight of the day? A deluxe hot chocolate that might just be the best I’ve ever had. Proper thick, rich chocolate topped with a mountain of cream and chocolate shavings and of course marshmallows —absolute heaven in a mug. Sitting in the car with a wet dog and grumpy husband, hands wrapped around that cup of warmth… yeah, that was the moment. So yeah, not the sunniest or driest day, but still a pretty great one. Sometimes, it’s the little things—like a ridiculously good hot chocolate—that make all the difference.

Day 22: keeping the momentum

As I near the final stretch of the Future Steps Challenge, I’m feeling a mix of accomplishment and motivation to push even further. What started as a simple goal—to walk more each day—has turned into a routine that feels almost second nature now. Today’s walk was especially meaningful because I shared it with my mother. Walking together, we talked about everything from daily life to future plans, reminding me that movement isn’t just about physical health—it’s also about connection and mindfulness. Looking ahead, I want to carry this momentum beyond the challenge itself. Walking has become more than just a step count; it’s a space for reflection, creativity, and a way to reset my mind. My goal now is to build on this habit, perhaps increasing my daily targets, exploring new routes, or even setting fresh challenges to stay motivated. Each step forward is a step toward something greater, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me next.

Day 21 – hitting the target

Three weeks in, and here we are—Day 21 of the Future Steps Challenge! It’s been a journey of persistence, determination, and a whole lot of steps. Today is special because I’ve officially hit my target, and there’s no better feeling than knowing that consistency pays off. Reflecting on the Journey When I first started this challenge, the daily step goal seemed ambitious. Some days, motivation was high; other days, life got in the way. But one thing remained constant: the commitment to keep moving. Whether it was early morning walks, lunchtime strolls, or pacing around the house in the evening to hit the final few steps, every bit counted. Lessons Learned 1. Small Actions Add Up – Progress doesn’t happen overnight. It’s the small, consistent efforts that lead to big achievements. 2. Mindset is Everything – On tough days, the challenge felt like a chore. But shifting my mindset to see each step as a step toward better health made all the difference. 3. Support Helps – Sharing the journey with friends and teammates kept me accountable and made it more enjoyable. What’s Next? Although I’ve reached my goal, this challenge has built a habit that I don’t want to break. Moving forward, I plan to keep up the momentum, setting new targets and finding fresh ways to stay active. To everyone still on their Future Steps journey—keep going! Every step counts, and the finish line is closer than you think. How’s your challenge going? Have you hit your target yet? Let’s keep stepping forward together!

Day 19: finding motivation & momentum

I’m now 19 days into the Future Steps Challenge, and while the initial excitement has settled, the real challenge is maintaining momentum. Some days are easier than others, but I’ve noticed a shift—not just in my step count, but in my mindset. Pushing Through the Midway Slump At the start, I was eager to rack up steps, going for extra walks and finding creative ways to stay active. But as the days go on, motivation naturally fluctuates. Today, I had to remind myself why I signed up: ✅ To move more and break up long hours at my desk ✅ To build healthier habits beyond this challenge ✅ To prove to myself that consistency matters more than perfection Today’s Wins Despite feeling sluggish in the morning, I made small choices that helped me hit my step goal: • Morning walk – A brisk 15-minute stroll before work • Midday movement break – A quick stretch and walk around the house It’s proof that even on low-motivation days, small actions add up. What I’ve Learned So Far • Routine beats motivation – On days when I don’t feel like moving, having a routine helps • Steps come from unexpected places – Pacing during calls, taking the stairs, even housework makes a difference • Accountability helps – Checking in with others doing the challenge keeps me going Looking Ahead With just over a week left, I want to: ✔️ Stay consistent with my daily step goal ✔️ Kick start Couch to 5K training ✔️ Finish strong and carry these habits forward Day 19 wasn’t my most energetic day, but it was still a step in the right direction—literally! How’s your Future Steps Challenge going? Let’s keep each other motivated!

Day 20: working from home & starting couch to 5k

Staying active while working from home can be a challenge, but taking part in the Future Steps Challenge has given me the perfect motivation to move more. With working from home it’s easy to stay glued to my desk for hours, so I decided to make a conscious effort to integrate more movement into my day. One of my main goals? Starting Couch to 5K (C25K). When your office is just a few steps away from your bed, it’s tempting to skip movement altogether. Without a commute, coffee runs, in-person meetings, or lunchtime colleague walks the daily step counts can plummet. That’s why I’ve set myself a challenge: ✅ Walk before work – a short morning walk to replicate a “commute” ✅ Midday movement breaks – setting reminders to step away from my desk ✅ Evening exercise – replacing screen time with a run or walk Starting Couch to 5K C25K is a structured plan that gradually builds up your running stamina over nine weeks. As someone who believes you should only run if you are being chased, it was daunting. But the program starts gently—alternating walking and running, and having Sarah Millican as my ‘personal’ coach it’s manageable even for beginners like me. First few sessions: • A mix of 60-second runs and 90-second walks • 30 minutes total (including warm-up and cool-down) • Surprisingly doable and energising ! Why Future Steps & C25K Work Well Together The Future Steps Challenge is all about increasing movement, and adding C25K gives me a structured way to do just that. Running isn’t just about fitness—it also improves focus and mental well-being, both of which are crucial! Next Steps ✔️ Stick to the C25K plan – running 3 times a week ✔️ Increase daily steps – aiming for 10,000+ ✔️ Stay accountable – tracking progress and celebrating small wins Whether you’re working from home or just looking for a new challenge, I highly recommend Future Steps and Couch to 5K—small changes really do add up!

Day 18: beyond the steps: raising £858 for the prince’s trust

When I started the Future Steps Challenge, the goal was clear—10,000 steps a day. A simple target, but as anyone who’s taken on a challenge like this knows, life doesn’t always go to plan. Today, I didn’t hit 10K steps. And you know what? That’s okay. Because while my step count might have fallen short, something much bigger happened— the Finance Footsteps team raised £858 for The Prince’s Trust. That’s £858 going toward helping young people build brighter futures, giving them the support and opportunities they need to succeed. Suddenly, the number on my step tracker doesn’t feel so important. At the start of this challenge, I thought success meant consistently hitting my daily step goal. But now, I realise that success isn’t just about numbers—it’s about impact. And today, I feel amazing knowing that, step count aside, I’ve contributed to something meaningful. If you’re taking on a challenge—whether it’s Future Steps or anything else—remember this: progress isn’t always measured the way you expect. Some days, success looks like hitting 10K steps. Other days, it’s about pushing through, even when things don’t go to plan. And sometimes, it’s about realising that your efforts are making a real difference, even if they don’t show up on a fitness tracker. So here’s to every step, every effort, and every donation that’s helping change lives. And if today was a tough one, just remember—you’re doing more than you think. #FutureSteps #EveryStepCounts #ProudMoment

Day 17 – a hard mental health day & the power of a hug

Some days hit harder than others. Today was one of those days. I woke up feeling the weight of everything—tired, unmotivated, and caught in a spiral of thoughts that just wouldn’t quiet down. It’s frustrating when your mind feels like your own worst enemy, especially when you’re trying so hard to move forward. The Future Steps Challenge is meant to be about progress, about taking small, intentional steps toward a better version of myself. But today, every step felt heavy. My mind kept telling me I wasn’t doing enough, that I wasn’t enough. And even though deep down I knew those thoughts weren’t true, they still lingered, making it hard to push through. But then, there was a hug from Dom—simple, warm, and exactly what I needed. Sometimes, words aren’t necessary. Sometimes, just knowing that someone sees you, feels your struggle, and holds space for you is enough. That hug reminded me that I’m not alone, that I am supported, and that even on the hardest days, I am still moving forward. Future Steps isn’t just about physical steps—it’s about the emotional and mental ones too. Today, my step was allowing myself to feel, to not push the struggle away, and to accept comfort when it was offered. And you know what? That’s still progress. If you’re having a tough day, please know that you’re not alone. Keep taking your steps, even if they’re slow. And if you need a hug—whether from a person, a pet, or even yourself—take it. You deserve kindness, especially from yourself. Here’s to showing up, even on the hard days. 💙

Day 16: running on empty, still hitting 10k

Some days, hitting 10,000 steps feels like a breeze. Today was not one of those days. Late night. Early start. A long journey that mostly involved sitting still. And yet, the challenge doesn’t care how tired I am. 10,000 steps still need to happen. The Struggle is Real Waking up after barely any sleep, my first thought was, Maybe today’s the day I let it slide. But I refuse to be beaten today! After a long drive home I was exhausted? The last thing I wanted to do was go for a walk—but I knew if I sat down, I was done for. So, out I went, one last push under the streetlights, walking off the fatigue, counting down the final few hundred steps. And then, finally—10,000. Done but not home - another 5,000 to go! Some days, it’s easy. Some days, it’s pure stubbornness. But no matter how tired I am, I’ll keep moving. Day 16: Completed on fumes, but completed nonetheless.

Day 15: walking, wagging, and window shopping

If there’s one thing that guarantees you hit 10,000 steps, it’s a hyperactive puppy and a shopping trip. Day 15 of The King’s Trust Future Steps Challenge, and today’s step count was powered by tail wags and retail therapy. The Puppy-Powered Warm-Up My morning started with the usual routine: leash, treats, and the chaotic energy of a puppy who thinks every leaf is a new adventure even though he is nearly 3! We zigzagged through the park, stopping every few minutes for an enthusiastic sniff or an impromptu wrestling match with a fallen branch. By the time we got home, I was already halfway to my step goal—and the puppy was still bouncing off the walls. How do they have this much energy? The Shopping Marathon Next up: shopping. Not the lazy, casual kind—the “walk every aisle, compare prices, and somehow leave with things you didn’t plan to buy” kind. Trafford Centre was hectic but I had a birthday voucher in hand and was keen to hit my step mark and merge it with retail therapy! Mission Accomplished Between puppy adventures and shopping detours, my step count soared past 10,000 without even trying. It turns out, when you keep moving (and get a little distracted by cute dog moments and discount racks), hitting your goal feels effortless. Day 15, done. The puppy is finally asleep, my shopping bags are full, and my legs? Absolutely shattered.

Valentine’s day: 10,000 steps of self-love

Ah, Valentine’s Day. A time for roses, chocolates, and overpriced set menus. But this year? I’m romancing my step count. Forget candlelit dinners—I’m lacing up my trainers. Instead of sweet nothings, my fitness tracker whispers: “Keep going. You’re only 3,000 steps away.” A Date with the Pavement Walking 10,000 steps on Valentine’s Day feels oddly poetic. It’s a reminder that movement is love—love for my body, my mind, and my stubborn determination to complete The King’s Trust Future Steps Challenge. The world is full of couples tonight, but so what? My playlist is fire, the crisp evening air is my dance partner, and every step feels like a small victory. No flowers needed—just a solid pair of walking shoes and a bit of grit. For the Love of the Challenge Some people measure love in grand gestures. I measure mine in steps. Every foot forward is proof that I’m showing up for myself. So here’s to a different kind of Valentine’s celebration—one where the only heartbreak is from an unexpected hill at step 8,000, and the only sweet treat is the satisfaction of smashing my goal. 10,000 steps of self-love, completed. Now, maybe I’ll treat myself to some chocolate after all.

Day 12: when walking becomes warfare

I don’t know when walking became a battle, but here we are. Day 12 of The King’s Trust Future Steps Challenge, and my feet have officially staged a rebellion. The blisters are growing their own blisters. My calves scream every time I stand up. My once-trusty shoes have turned into torture devices. And yet, I keep going. The Mental Battlefield The first few days were easy. Fresh motivation. That sweet, self-righteous feeling of being an “active person.” Now? Every step feels like a test of willpower. The excuses creep in. “It’s just one day off.” “Surely 8,000 steps is close enough?” “I walked a lot yesterday. That counts, right?” But I’ve come too far. So, I drag myself out. I walk. I march. I push through the pain and the inner monologue telling me to quit. Finding the Silver Lining Somewhere between step 5,000 and 10,000, something shifts. I start noticing the world again. The crisp air. The way the pavement hums beneath my feet. The quiet satisfaction of knowing that, despite everything, I showed up today. Because that’s what this challenge is about. Not just steps. Commitment. Discipline. The power to keep going when you really, really don’t want to. Day 12, done. Let’s see what Day 13 brings.

Day 13 - do i beat myself up for not hitting 10,000 steps? absolutely. and here’s the bloody aftermath.

You ever feel your fitness tracker glaring at you? That smug little screen, blinking judgmentally, reminding you that you’ve failed? Yeah, me too. I signed up for The King’s Trust Future Steps Challenge, full of optimism, ready to smash 10,000 steps daily. Easy, right? Just some walking. A bit of extra movement. Maybe a scenic stroll. Then reality hit. Hard. The Descent into Madness Day one? Smashed it. 15,527 steps. Felt invincible. Day two? 13,652. Still going strong. Day three? 14,863 bring it on! Day four? 8,968. Close enough? Maybe. But my brain didn’t think so. Fast forward to day thirteen and I did it again 9,242! Step anxiety kicks in! I pace my whispering, “Just 700 more… just 700 more…” My feet scream. My knees beg for mercy. My fitness tracker still blinks like a disappointed parent. The Gory Aftermath Do I beat myself up? Oh, it’s a massacre. The guilt eats me alive. I imagine my competitors—absolute step machines—leaving me in the dust. My Fitbit might as well start vibrating Morse code messages: “You weak, pathetic excuse for a walker.” My legs ache, my mind spirals, and I’m convinced I’ve failed society itself. Somewhere, an imaginary King’s Trust judge shakes their head in disappointment. And Yet, Here I Am But then, I take a breath. Two missed days doesn’t undo the journey. So what if I fell short? I walked. I moved. I tried. And tomorrow? I’ll get up and do it again. Maybe 10,000. Maybe 9,000. Maybe 5,000 and a well-earned break. Because in the end, the real challenge isn’t the steps. It’s not letting the failure consume you.

Day 11: pushing through the pain – staying motivated for the future

It’s Day 11 of this challenge, and I’d be lying if I said it was easy. The initial excitement has faded, the soreness is setting in, and the temptation to slow down is real. But here’s the thing—this is exactly when it matters most. Motivation is great when it’s fresh, but true progress happens when we push through discomfort, doubt, and fatigue. Physical pain is temporary, but the discipline we build by showing up every day, despite it, is what will carry us forward. Every step I take today isn’t just about today. It’s about setting myself up for a stronger, healthier future. It’s about proving that I can stay committed even when my body is telling me to quit. Because let’s be honest—there will always be reasons to stop. But there are even more reasons to keep going. I remind myself: • This pain means I’m growing. • This discomfort means I’m improving. • This struggle means I’m on the right path. So I take another step. And another. Because the version of me that finishes this challenge will thank the version of me that didn’t give up today. On to the next step.

Day 10: rain and riot

Day 10 of the Future Steps Challenge, and let’s just say… it was an experience. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to power through a walk in freezing rain, only to arrive at an exercise class that feels more like a quantum mechanics than a workout, you’re in the right place. The Walk: A Battle Against the Elements Let’s set the scene: The sky was gray, the wind was howling, and the rain? Oh, the rain was relentless. The kind of drizzle that seems innocent at first but slowly soaks you to the bone. My waterproof jacket? A lie. My motivation? Hanging by a thread. But hey, Future Steps isn’t about excuses—it’s about commitment. So, with damp socks and a determined stride, I marched on. The Class: More Laughter Than Lunges If I thought the walk was tough, nothing prepared me for the absolute riot that was today’s exercise class. Picture this: a cold, wet Hayley trying to maintain balance in a high-energy workout. I wasn’t graceful, and i definitely wasn’t dry, but it was fun—and that’s what counts! The Walk Home: A Soggy Victory Lap By the time class was over, my legs felt like jelly, my clothes were officially part of my skin, and my hair had reached a level of damp chaos I didn’t know was possible. But weirdly enough, I felt amazing. Because at the end of the day, this challenge isn’t just about steps—it’s about pushing through, having a laugh, and knowing that every soggy mile is making a difference for The King’s Trust. So here’s to the next 10 days—may they be just as ridiculous, just as sweaty, and hopefully, a little drier! How’s your Future Steps challenge going? Share your funniest (or wettest) moments below!

Day 9 – progress, perseverance, and purpose

Day 9 of the Future Steps Challenge, and I’m already at 46% of my step goal! Even more incredible—I’ve doubled my fundraising target. When I first signed up, I wasn’t sure how far I’d get, but now I can see just how much progress is possible with consistency and determination. Walking every day has been a challenge, both physically and mentally. Some days, motivation comes easily; other days, I have to push myself just to get moving. But knowing that every step is not only improving my own well-being but also making a difference for a good cause keeps me going. Reaching this milestone reminds me that small actions add up. Each step, each donation, each moment spent moving forward—whether for fitness, mental health, or charity—contributes to something bigger. With 21 days still to go, I’m feeling inspired to keep pushing, not just for myself but for everyone who has supported my journey so far. If you’re taking part in the challenge, keep going! And if you’ve been thinking about starting something new—whether it’s walking, fundraising, or simply taking a step toward a personal goal—now is the perfect time. Here’s to more steps, more impact, and more progress ahead!

Day 8 – walking through anxiety and depression

As I hit Day 8 of the Future Steps Challenge, I’m starting to realise that walking is doing more for me than just keeping me active—it’s becoming a lifeline for my mental health. For years, I’ve battled depression and anxiety. Some days, even getting out of bed feels like a challenge. My mind is often a whirlwind of worry, self-doubt, and exhaustion. When I first started this challenge, I saw it as just another task—something to check off the list. But today, something shifted. As I walked, I felt a release. The steady rhythm of my steps, the crisp air against my skin, the simple act of moving forward—it all worked together to quiet the noise in my head. For a little while, the weight of anxiety felt lighter, the fog of depression less suffocating. Walking isn’t a cure, but it’s a small, manageable way to care for myself on the tough days. Research shows that movement helps with mental health, and today, I truly felt it. Each step was a reminder that I’m still here, still moving forward, even when my mind tells me otherwise. If you’re struggling too, I encourage you to step outside. Even if it’s just for a few minutes, even if it feels pointless at first. Sometimes, one small step is the beginning of something bigger. Here’s to walking through the hard days—one step at a time.

Day 7 – arctic breezes & family support

As we step into Day 6 of the Future Steps Challenge, the journey is beginning to take its toll. The chilly, artic-style breezes make each step feel like a battle against the elements, but the determination to push forward remains strong. Braving the cold, I remind myself why I signed up for this challenge—to make a difference, to push my limits, and to support a great cause. But today, I also realised the importance of bringing others along on this journey. Encouraging family and friends to sponsor me has been a game-changer. Not only does their support fuel my motivation, but it also helps maximise the impact of every step I take. If you’re taking part in the challenge, don’t be afraid to reach out to loved ones. Share your progress, explain why it matters, and invite them to be part of your journey. Whether they donate or simply cheer you on, their encouragement can make all the difference. With the wind biting at my face and my step count climbing, I know one thing for sure—this challenge is as much about perseverance as it is about purpose. Here’s to keeping the momentum going, one step at a time! #FutureSteps #KeepGoing #EveryStepCounts

Day 6 – walking, fitness, and lunch with colleagues

As I reach Day 6 of the Future Steps Challenge, I’m starting to feel the benefits of incorporating more walking into my daily routine. Whether it’s walking to a fitness class, taking extra steps at work, or simply making an effort to move more, I can already see how these small changes add up. One of the highlights of today was lunch with my colleagues. It was a great way to break up the workday, stretch our legs, and catch up outside the office. It’s easy to forget how refreshing it can be to step away from the screen and have real conversations in a different environment. Plus, the extra steps helped push me closer to my daily In the evening, I had a fitness class scheduled, and instead of driving, I walked there and back. This added a solid number of steps and also served as a good warm-up and cool-down. By the time I arrived at the class, I already felt energised and ready to move. The return walk was a nice way to unwind, reflect on the workout, and enjoy some fresh air before heading home. With the first week of the Future Steps Challenge almost complete, I’m feeling motivated to keep this momentum going. Here’s to another day of movement and progress!

Day 5: pushing forward with adhd

Taking on The King’s Trust Future Steps Challenge has been an exciting but challenging journey, especially as someone with ADHD. Day 5 has been a real test of focus, motivation, and consistency—but it’s also been an opportunity to push my limits and prove to myself that I can do this! One of the hardest parts of this challenge has been staying consistent. With ADHD, motivation can come in waves, and distractions are everywhere. But I’ve found a few strategies that have helped: • Breaking it down: Instead of thinking about the whole challenge, I focus on one small goal at a time—whether it’s walking for 10 minutes or hitting a certain step count. • Making it fun: Listening to music, using a step-tracking app, and setting mini-rewards keeps me engaged. • Accountability: Telling friends and family about my progress has kept me motivated to keep going. Reaching day 5 has shown me that progress is progress, no matter how small. As I move forward in the challenge, I want to focus on: • Building a routine that works for me, rather than forcing myself into rigid plans. • Celebrating small wins, because every step counts! • Staying kind to myself, especially on tougher days when focus and energy feel low. This challenge isn’t just about fitness—it’s about proving to myself that I can keep going, even when it’s tough. If you’re taking part in Future Steps (or any personal challenge), remember: progress isn’t always linear, but every step forward is a step in the right direction! Let’s keep moving! #FutureSteps #ADHDAwareness #KeepGoing

Day 4 – new friends and big wins

Today has been one for the books! Not only did I push myself physically, but I also had the chance to connect with some fantastic people along the way. One of the best parts of today was getting to know new people during a lunchtime walk with the Ecom team. It’s amazing how something as simple as walking can bring people together. We chatted and laughed, all while adding to our step count. It was a great reminder that fitness challenges aren’t just about personal achievements—they’re also about community and connection. After the work, the next challenge began with Step aerobics on the agenda, and I went all in! In just one session, I burned over 600 calories—a serious workout! The high-energy moves, combined with music and a great atmosphere, made it both intense and fun. There’s something so satisfying about pushing yourself and seeing the results. Day 4 Takeaways • Walking with others is a great way to stay motivated and make new friends. • Step aerobics is no joke—600+ calories in one session is proof! • The Future Steps Challenge is about more than just fitness; it’s about teamwork, encouragement, and stepping outside your comfort zone. I’m looking forward to seeing what Day 5 brings! If you’re taking part in the challenge too, how’s it going for you? Let’s keep stepping forward together! #FutureSteps #TheKingsTrust #StayActive #Teamwork

Day 3: 10k steps & riot class with #warriorsmovement

Today was all about movement—physically, and mentally. I kicked off the day with my best bud, Loki, by smashing 5000 steps. There’s something about walking that clears the mind, fuels motivation, and reminds me why I started this journey. Next up was another inspiring session with Finance Footsteps, where a further 4K was achieved whilst spending time with my amazing Kings Trust team. To top it all off, I wrapped up the day with an incredible Riot class led by the fabulous #WarriorsMovement—an intense, high-energy session that left me feeling stronger than ever. Every rep, every bead of sweat, every challenge conquered was for a cause bigger than myself—the King’s Trust. Three days in, and the momentum is building. Bring on Day Four! #10KSteps #FinanceFootsteps #RiotClass #WarriorsMovement #KingsTrust

Weekend walk

Getting my steps in with my little helpers this weekend!!!

Day 2 - sunshine and sweet treats!

Day 2 of the Future Steps challenge brought beautiful sunshine—perfect weather for getting out and exploring! With my trusty 4 legged companion Loki, we set off on an adventure through the local area, making the most of the fresh air and blue skies. Our journey took us five miles, leading us straight to a well-earned reward—meeting Dad for a coffee and a delicious slice of cake. After a relaxing break and a catch-up, we laced up once more and headed home, feeling refreshed and accomplished. Every step counts towards supporting The King’s Trust, and today’s walk was a reminder that this challenge is just as much about enjoying the journey as it is about reaching the goal. Here’s to more sunny days, long walks, and, of course, a few well-deserved treats along the way! #FutureSteps #TheKingsTrust #WalkForACause #200degs

Day 1 - off to a strong start!!!

Today marked the exciting beginning of the Future Steps challenge for The King’s Trust, and what a fantastic start it was! With a goal of walking as many steps as possible throughout February to support young people, day one was all about getting into the rhythm and setting a strong foundation for the journey ahead. Clocking in just shy of 15,000 steps, the day was filled with determination, fresh air, and a real sense of purpose. Joined by my wonderful husband and German Shepherd Loki every step counted towards making a difference. This challenge isn’t just about fitness—it’s about supporting The King’s Trust in helping young people build brighter futures. With 28 days ahead, the momentum is just getting started, and there’s plenty of motivation to keep moving. Here’s to many more steps, one day at a time! Stay tuned for updates and keep stepping forward for a great cause. #FutureSteps #TheKingsTrust #StepByStep

First 10,000 steps done!

Beautiful country walk this morning to tick off Day 1 ☺️

We're facing 10,000 steps a day in February

We are taking on the Future Steps challenge this February for The King's Trust – facing 10,000 steps a day to help transform the lives of young people in the UK.

From the cost of living crisis to an unprecedented lack of opportunity, young people face a range of difficulties in today’s society. The King's Trust is committed to helping them. Working in a variety of areas, including training, education and emotional wellbeing, to ensure that people from all backgrounds get the support they deserve. A donation of just £10 could fund a call to The King's Trust helpline, enabling a vulnerable young person to gain the critical advice they need.

So, whether it’s indoors or outdoors, walking, running or rolling, it all goes toward supporting the cause. Every step, and every penny, really does count. Please help me to support The Kings’s Trust by sponsoring us and sharing our page.
